Due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, the UK brewing and beer industry has taken a huge hit, with pubs across the country being closed indefinitely.
It is therefore with a very heavy heart that we must announce that Timothy Taylor’s will be downscaling across all areas of the business.
What does this mean?
In accordance with government advice, many of our staff will be ‘furloughed’ over the coming weeks and months. This means that they will cease their usual daily activities and be placed on temporary leave, with the government supplementing 80% of their wages until the brewery can reopen and restart normal functions.
We will retain key production and transport staff and will continue brewing beer. This will allow us to continue to supply bottled beers to supermarkets and shops across the UK that have remained open and will allow our customers to keep stocking our beers through the duration of the pandemic.
This also allows us to keep using and looking after our unique ‘Taylor’s Taste’ yeast, which is now over 2,000 generations old and needs to be used in brews each week in order to keep it healthy and doing its job at optimum efficiency.
Please note that all brewing will be done in accordance with government guidelines and may be subject to change going forward dependent on future guidance.
All but one of our pubs are run by business colleagues (tenants) who are making their own judgements about their business and whether they remain open in a takeaway capacity; trying to balance government advice with the fact that they are often important parts of their local communities.
The Woolly Sheep Inn, our only managed pub, is now closed and will remain so until further information and guidance is available.
Guidance is being sent out regularly to ensure all pub staff members are aware of the ever-changing nature of the situation and strict hygiene standards are being maintained and reinforced. Timothy Taylor’s will always do everything in our power to help support our pubs in these uncertain times and have already provided financial assistance.
We have taken the decision to close our webshop to keep staff and who they interact with safe.
Our social media channels and website will not be updated often during the coming weeks, and therefore we ask any customer who wishes to contact us to do so by sending us an email to tim@timtaylors.co.uk. We will continue to try and reply in a timely manner, but we appreciate your patience during this period.
Finally, thank you
These are trying times and we would like to thank every one of our fans and customers for their unbelievable support and custom over the last 162 years and we hope for many years to come.
Stay safe, stay at home, look after each other and we will see you on the other side.
The Timothy Taylor’s team
