October 2014 – £65,000 was raised for the York Minster Fund through a hugely successful ‘Beef, Beer and Bubbles’ dinner on Friday 3 October.
The event, supported by Timothy Taylor’s, gathered 250 people to dine in the North Transept of York Minster, and ended with an auction of exclusive and unusual lots. Guests came from around the county, including Lords Halifax and Crathorne, the Lord Lieutenants of North and West Yorkshire, the York Minster Fund trustees and generous local businesses. The Dean The Very Reverend Vivienne Faull welcomed the guests to the Minster, and the evening was chaired by Charles Dent, Managing Director of Timothy Taylor’s and Chairman of the York Minster Fund. The Archbishop of York and his wife Margaret Sentamu enjoyed the proceedings, and Margaret was elected the ‘carver’ for the joint of beef on her table.
The evening was a tremendous success, but the restoration of the Minster is an ongoing challenge. All donations to the York Minster Fund are dedicated to repairing and restoring the fabric of this iconic medieval building.
